Trimming The Fat

Posted on May 19, 2008
Filed Under Internet Marketing related, Make Money Online, Online Spending | Leave a Comment

I just cancelled my membership to Internet Millionaires Club Malaysia because I am not fully utilizing the tools and guidance available from that membership.  To be honest, I felt I was not gaining that much from being a member (that is my personal opinion) except for the mastermind which I would rather pay one off fee to attend if I find the topics interesting enough.

As written before, there are many ways to for one to make money online - my adsense so far is USD10.40 and if I really put in the effort e.g. create a website that has high Click Through Rate payout, and focus on SEO, I can achieve the rate of USD5 - USD10 a day. Its all about putting in the effort.

There is a great post featured at www.clicknewz.com on why so many of us fail to make money online, which is a great read and I find myself nodding my head as I have been guilty of all the points made.

What I intend to do now is to trim all the unnecesary ‘fats’ around my plans to make $ online and really focus on Adsense at this point.  Even after 5 months I still lack focus and have only put in like 5% of effort which explains my results ;-)

The past few weeks have seen me reading plenty of self development blogs which have taken attention away from this blog. Good news is, I kept my expenses low while I build my websites.

I believe that if you aren’t making money the next best move is to cut down on your expenses until you are making money.

The Limitations of ‘BUT’

Posted on May 1, 2008
Filed Under Have a Break, Just Tips | Leave a Comment

Have you ever noticed the amount of ‘buts’ you used in your conversations, thoughts and writing?

For example: It is my goal to have 500 unique visitors a day but I do not know the best way to achieve that.

I want to be happier but there are just too many bad things that happen to me.

What if you remove the ‘but’ and replace with a neutral sounding word ‘and’?

It is my goal too have 500 unique visitors a day and I do not know the best way to achieve that and I will learn more about driving traffic techniques.

I want to be happier and I know bad things are happening to me and I will come out of that a stronger person.

Do you notice the difference? Read the above 4 sentences aloud and you will realize the sentence that used the word ‘but’ sounds negative, whiny, excusable… whereas when you use ‘and’ instead it projects hope, not a dead end, but a call for help either from yourself or another person.

I am guilty of using a lot of ‘buts’ - read through my earlier posts and you will know what I am talking about.

So, I want to make this change and I know I can do it!

Grey Areas In Making Money Online

Posted on April 18, 2008
Filed Under Internet Marketing related, Make Money Online, Online Spending | Leave a Comment

Anyone that is interested in making money online would know and probably use Google Adsense as a monetization method.

And the past few days, we have seen Joel Comm promoting the 4th edition of his highly successful ebook “Adsense Secrets” that used to sell for USD97 in the earlier editions which he now sells at USD9.95.

Sounds like  an incredible deal and great value for money.

Those that bought the ebook were asked to pay with their credit card and Joel Comm gave some bonuses to those that buy Adsense Secrets 4.0 - and guess what? One of the bonuses was a 1 month trial subscription to his newsletter called The Top 1% Report.  Once the one month expires, unless you as a customer cancel, you will be automatically billed USD29.95 per month until you realize what is happening and do some admin work.

So what’s the BIG deal? I heard 2 sides to the stories. There are many unhappy customers out there because they were not made aware of this “forced continuity” when they purchase Adsense Secrets 4.0. If they are first time purchaser, they were ‘blinded’ by the unbelievable low price of the ebook and just went ahead to buy it without reading everything thoroughly.  Those that have bought from Joel Comm before, did not bother to really read the sales page and just hit the buy button.

Now, I do not plan to buy this ebook because I would like stop buying how to ebooks until I get my basics right.

The other side to the story was that most people realized about the forced continuity issue and decided that the onus is on themselves to cancel the newsletter subscription after the free trial of one month.

So, you have 2 camps, those that are unhappy with the sales tactic and those that did not realize about the automatic subscription after the free trial but is okay with the sales tactic as long as they can cancel it in time.

So, what do I think? I think as business owners and marketers, we should be honest in our dealings so that we can sleep well at night. If there is such thing as recurring billing, it should be made very clear (apparently in follow up auto responder emails from the seller, the monthly billing matter was not explicit).

I don’t think any laws were broken with this sales tactic because I went to the sales page and it was clearly stated out in the Fast Action Bonus #3 about the free trial and recurring billing unless there is cancellation. But it did not stand out and I took notice of it only because I knew about this issue before heading over to the sales page.

So, as consumers the only way we can protect ourselves these days is to read through all the fine points contain within sales pages, terms and conditions (boring I know)  to protect ourselves from ‘grey areas’ online and offline.

For any information product that truly interests me, I take the time to read through the sales page however long because I want to fully understand what I am really buying.

In this case, I have a strong feeling that Mr Joel Comm might have lost a few returning customers because of this issue.

Sidetracked

Posted on April 18, 2008
Filed Under Make Money Online, Online Income | Leave a Comment

I have not been posting on this blog the past 2 weeks as two of my family members passed away and there were a lot of follow up and so I have been totally sidetracked.

I hope to get back to full force in May and focus strongly on my online income goals.

Good news ;-) my adsense income is almost touching USD5.00. If you do read different make money online blogs, you will receive advice such as the first dollar is the hardest and once you go through that hurdle, it will suddenly dawn on you that, yes, it is possible to make money online - but its not all sit back and do nothing type of work. You need to put in the full effort as if it is a full time business or at least a part time business!

A quick update on what has been happening so far in my online income journey…let’s see:

1. I am reading Desperate Buyers Only by Alexis Dawes

2. I will be attending 2nd Mastermind meetup of Internet Millionaires Club Malaysia on 26 April

3. I have printed 100 free blogger business cards from www.ooprint.com

So the above are on my plate at this point. I hope your online ventures are going well too

Got Great Idea(s), Write It Down Quick!

Posted on April 4, 2008
Filed Under Just Tips | 1 Comment

I met up with a friend that I met at Internet Millionaires Club Malaysia first mastermind in April and he has just started his blog: Folks, meet Joekadu.

It was over lunch and we got to talking and Joe has a great product that he thinks will really work and be useful to those who buy it.  In fact, he has done some background work on where to get the product and how to market it, I of course threw in a few thoughts as well.

Guess what?

None of us wrote any of those ideas down….granted it was lunch time but we had a proper table and there was space if we really wanted to use it.

Now, if you ask me to recall the ideas, I could remember the over all plan etc but I am pretty sure I would not remember all of the tips and strategies that we talked about.

It happened to me before (twice bitten not shy, that’s me) where I would have plenty of ideas and topics to write on and I was too lazy to jot down and whoosh, 5 minutes later, I forgot.

I am sure you know by now what I am getting at. It is most helpful and maybe lucrative in the future to write down your ideas

In fact, create an “ideas notebook” - and keep it by your side at all times and just jot or scribble any thoughts, ideas, thinking that you have into it.

One day, you may find valuable treasures in that book.

I Need Traffic Duh!

Posted on April 2, 2008

OK, its a no brainer that my blog and my other niche site www.charmbraceletsonline.net is lacking in one of the most important aspect of make money online i.e. traffic.

I am not shy to admit, I currently have 74 unique visitors to this site since Jan 2008 - way way too low for a 3 month blog already.

By the way, I have given up on the other niche site of mine which is www.mysecondhomeinmalaysia.com (that’s RM33 down the drain) because I do not have the smallest bit of drive to update it with good informative content.

Nobody knows I exist! (Is that a good thing? ;-) )

Hello everybody, I am an Introvert……

That is why at times, I find it pretty hard to express myself clearly, and I do not like to interact too much in the blogosphere. I would read a great blog post, wanted to comment and saw that the blog post already has 76 comments and the first thought that appear in my head is “I don’t need to comment, other people have commented”.

I have also mentioned before that I have self-esteem issues and it is a constant battle to tell myself you are doing ok, and to refrain from comparing myself with other people who are smarter and more sociable.

I have been labelled ‘anti-social’ plenty of times and this labelling no longer affect me in any way haha.

In my 9-5 job, I am in client service and lately, because of my poor PR skills - I have been receiving grouses from clients for not being attentive and for providing poor client service. Clients of mine prefer to contact another colleague of mine for information and not me.

So, to get to the main gist of the post here, which is about traffic - I believe how I am ‘internally’ at this point is hindering my traffic driving activities in the sense that I am NOT doing any of those actions that will lead traffic to my site e.g. use Stumbleupon, frequent commenting, submitting articles to various directories, guest blogging ( you get the drift).

What can I do then to remove the blockades that have been there for so many years? I can read great posts that I have highlighted below.  It will take a lot of practice to open up myself but don’t get me wrong. I am not sad, upset or feeling down with the status quo. I just don’t understand why is that my circumstances at work is not how I hope it to be. That is why I need to get my license to quit but I when I do, its for something that is of value to my targeted market.

So, if you are feeling the ‘blues’- we all do from time to time, check out the blog posts below to pull yourself back up from the dumps.

I am feeling better already!

Now, where were we on traffic? ;-)

I Quit

Posted on March 27, 2008
Filed Under Make Money Online, Never, Never Give Up | 7 Comments

Not. Not for a minute or a second. I may not have been posting much or making any $ yet, but I ain’t going to quit because the journey has yet to begin. It does not mean you start a blog and you immediately rake in some dosh.

Just because you are using the commenting strategy on other blogs, it does not guarantee that you are getting nearer to seeing the dollars in your adsense, CJ, Clickbank account etc.

Of course, there are people who will be faster adopter and performer - this is how the society was and is. Human systems will not change.  It takes money to make money.

Be honest, if you have not forked out the $77 for the ebook or $997 for the course, would you be where you are today?

Read between the lines, you need to pay to learn, knowledge does not come free. I paid RM30,000 (USD10,000) for a 15 month weekend degree program. That degree has given me a decent job at this point. I paid for my salary today.

So, I am not going to quit, I am enjoying the journey and I believe one day, the wall to my online goal will crack and tumble.

Thank you for being a part of my journey.

GadgetSpots As An Alternative To Google Adsense?

Posted on March 21, 2008
Filed Under Internet Marketing related, Make Money Online | Leave a Comment

I have just signed up to the GadgetSpots Network for free and you can now see the tower of ads on my right left sidebar. (click on them if you find any of the ads interesting!).

What is GadgetSpots Network? It provides traffic generating gadgets for all members that are part of its network. Basically ”the GadgetSpots Network distributes gadgets to website owners to place on their webpages and once installed the gadgets will display categorized ads.”

You can join for FREE or UPGRADE to paid membership (USD19.95 per month), and as a free member, you get 25% share of the ad distribution/display on other members’ websites/blogs whereas paid member gets 75% share of the ad distribution. In plain terms, your ads as a free member will be shown 250 times as opposed to 7500 times of a paid member in a certain timing period.

There is another plus side, you get to choose the type of ads you wish to display on your blog/website…so you have a say in the ads that are displayed.

On top of that, your displayed ads will receive traffic and potential sales as well.

Also, you get paid $6/month for referring new members that sign up for a PAID account as long as the members maintain their subscription, and $3 on a second tier, e.g. someone sign up under the person that you referred earlier on.

Pretty cool eh? Sign up now and get your ads displayed on other people’s network for free!

A Way To Ensure You Buy The Right Ebook, Software, Etc Online

Posted on March 20, 2008
Filed Under Internet Marketing related, Online Spending | Leave a Comment

On my journey to make money online, I have come across and purchased a few ebooks and joined a membership site, and also thought of buying software to aid my making money online efforts.

I have made the mistake of not reading reviews before purchasing ebooks but luckily so far, the investments I have made have been small but the education I have received from my purchases have been worth the price I have paid.

But if it is a high ticket item and by that I mean information products that are above the USD47 price tag, please take the time to search on the internet for favorable and non-favorable reviews so you get a clear picture of the product you intend to purchase.

I totally understand the hypnotic ability of sales pages to draw out the buying impulse especially if it offers the solution that you are seeking or think that you might need - but if you take the time out to just do a quick search you can make a more informed decision.

For example, with Neil Shearing’s 10 Day Cash Secret, I received rave reviews from various online marketers but somehow I chanced upon another review that gave it the thumbs down. Although I did not purchase this plugin, I am glad I did read the negative review because it provided a different perspective.

Its just like politics, you need the opposing party to have a part in the ruling government (e.g. in Parliament / Congress) to keep the checks and balances!

Below is a list of some review sites that I feel will provide an honest opinion on new/recent product launches that might be of interest to you.  In some cases, these review sites actually offer added value service e.g. further insights on product if you purchase the product via their link especially when the product is deemed favorable with the review site. (Bear in mind that not all products are featured and you might have to do a search for non-featured products).

In the end, the buying decision is yours and you should exercise that right effectively.
